Summer weather arrived just in time for the opening of The Landing at Hoyt Park beer garden.
Some of the upgrades for 2017 were on display opening night Wednesday, May 17 as attendees saw additional seating and landscaping upgrades.
“The Landing has been a big part of (Friends of Hoyt Park and Pool's) success story since the beer garden opened in 2013," Executive Director Kit Slawski said. "We’re pleased to be able to offer improvements that will further enhance the experience for our patrons.”
The FOHPP said the most noticeable improvements include:
• Additional beer garden tables and benches.
• Additional shade structures and shade trees.
• A mobile service station to be used on high-volume days.
The new tables are on the east end of the beer garden near the walking bridge and were well used on opening night.
"We always hope for good weather and it really came through tonight," said David Paulsen, in his first season as communications director for FOHPP. "This is the final proof that winter is not coming back."
The mobile service station was not yet operating on opening night but Paulsen said it will help reduce long lines on busy days.
The Landing’s hours are 3 to 9 p.m. Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays and noon to 9 p.m. Saturdays, Sundays and holidays.
The beer garden will remain in operation through the end of October.
The Landing offers free music in the evenings Thursday through Saturday and starting in June they will have trivia on Wednesday nights.
The improvements for The Landing’s fourth season are part of the nonprofit group's ongoing mission to create a welcoming gathering space where the community can enjoy food and drinks, live music and the outdoor beauty of Hoyt Park in the summer, a release from FOHPP said.
The FOHPP, which raised money to build the Tosa Pool, operates both the pool and The Landing. FOHPP has a 55-year lease with Milwaukee County to operate the pool and does not receive taxpayer support.
Tosa Pool opens for the season Saturday, May 27. Memberships are still available.
