Jimmy John's Gourmet Sandwiches are coming to the Wauwatosa Village.

The store will be located in the development known as the State Street Station at 7400 W. State Street in Wauwatosa. It is a $42 million, four-story retail and apartment building that has been the subject of some consternation from the surrounding neighbors.

Brookfield-based developer HSI Properties LLC owns the property and had previously targeted a George Webb's for the space that will now be occupied by the 1,350-square-foot Jimmy John's. It was not stated as to why Webb's changed its mind and the company could not be reached for comment.

At the May 2 Wauwatosa Common Council meeting, approval for the store passed by a vote of 10-4. The item had come before the council April 11, but council members asked owners Tiffany Gename and Anthony DeRosa to come back to the council after they had an opportunity to review the fit of a Jimmy John's in the property.

The approval is contingent upon the operating hours of 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. and obtaining the required licenses and permits.

The minutes from the May 2 meeting state that the request was reviewed by the Community Affairs Committee as to whether it is a good fit for the location and was found to be compatible with the neighborhood,

Some concerns expressed by the neighbors include delivery cars coming and going and the desire for a "unique, local business" instead of a franchise.
