Is there a rumor you’ve heard that you would like to track down? Is there something in the city — like playground equipment or a pothole — that needs to be fixed? Rick Romano answers some of the mysteries of life in Wauwatosa and helps solve everyday problems. Send questions to news@jrn.com and put “Wauwatosa Ask Now” in the subject line.

What’s with the used car lot at the corner of 84th and North?

Issue: That question one reader asked refers to the white van parked at the site of the former Tosa Gas, 8334 W. North Ave.

Did the common council approve that use scenario and is it zoned for a car dealership?” our reader asked. “Sure would be nice if a restaurant of some sort went in there.”

Status: A zoning variance to allow a local restaurant to build on the site was turned down by the Wauwatosa Common Council earlier this year. The property currently is for sale with a visible real estate sign in front of it.

Peter Wahl, the property’s owner, said the vehicle – with a “for sale” sign placed inside its windshield – belongs to him and that he has no intention of using the space as a used car lot.

Referring to the restaurant opposition by neighbors and the common council, Wahl said he hoped everyone “enjoys the view.”

Wauwatosa officials at the Development Department and the Police Department said they have not had any direct complaints regarding the parked vehicle.
