Wauwatosa School Board member Stan Zurawski has resigned from the board effective Feb. 27.
Administrative Assistant to the Superintendent Connie Galante confirmed that Zurawski turned in his resignation for personal reasons prior to the Monday, Feb. 27 school board meeting.
Zurawski's resignation creates a vacancy for Seat No. 4 on the board. He could not immediately be reached for comment.
"Stan served with honor and distinction during his time on the board," school board president Mike Meier said. "I was a better board member because Stan was in the room."
Zurwaski had declared his intention to run in 2017 for the position and according to Galante his name will remain on the ballot for the April 4 election. If he wins he has the option of declining the position or rejoining the board.
Meier said that as of now he has no intention of scheduling a school board discussion regarding filling the open seat before the upcoming election and added that none of the other board members have brought it up for discussion.
Zurawski's opponent for Seat No. 4 is Leigh Anne Fraley, who also declared her interest in the seat that was filled by the board Dec. 5. The board appointed Stan Zurawski to be its seventh member after the seat opened up when board vice president and longtime board member Mary Jo Randall resigned Nov. 11.
