Friends of Hoyt Park and Pool in Wauwatosa announced the hiring of David Paulsen as the new communications director Oct. 19. Paulsen worked most recently as a breaking news editor of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel and currently serves on the board of the Tosa East Towne Neighborhood Association.

"My family and I quickly fell in love with Wauwatosa after moving here three years ago and the Tosa pool is one of the reasons why," Paulsen said. "Our three sons enjoy swimming here and I am looking forward to getting my feet wet, pun intended, as I help build on the Friends' great work."

Paulsen is a native of Massachusetts and a graduate of the University of Southern California and has worked as a reporter for various newspapers, including the Wausau Daily Herald, before he moved on to as senior news editor in New York, New York. He joined the Journal Sentinel in 2013 and helped to respond to the local news audience's shift toward digital communication and social media.

The pool, 1800 N. Swan Blvd., includes The Landing at Hoyt Park Beer Garden that remains open through the end of October. According to the Friends of Hoyt Park & Pool, a nonprofit group that runs the pool without any public funds, more than 100,000 people visited the pool and beer garden in the summer of 2016.
