Rick Romano answers some of the mysteries of life in Wauwatosa and helps solve everyday problems
Is there a rumor you’ve heard that you would like to track down? Is there something in the city — like playground equipment or a pothole — that needs to be fixed? Rick Romano answers some of the mysteries of life in Wauwatosa and helps solve everyday problems.
When will the Center Street bridge construction be completed?
Issue: A reader who lives near the construction site asked that question, adding “This is the third year we have had Center Street we have had construction traffic pass our house."
Our reader said other construction at Eisenhower Elementary has made it difficult for his neighborhood.
Status: Center Street bridge construction is wrapping up, said Wisconsin Department of Transportation spokesman Michael Pyritz. In fact, the bridge is scheduled to be open to vehicle and pedestrian traffic no later than Aug. 27 - this weekend.
While it may seem like the bridge work has been going on for three years, Pyritz said the project will have been completed in less than six months. Work to build a nearby pedestrian bridge connecting Eisenhower and Wauwatosa West High School, along with ongoing Zoo Interchange construction and local Center Street roadwork has made for a lot of construction traffic, he said.
“The bridge was old and it was an opportune time to rebuild it along with all the freeway work,” Pyrtiz said. He said the infrastructure as well as the decking are part of the reconstruction.
“As long as the weather cooperates, our work will be done before the end of August, though there may be some municipal utility work being completed after that,” Pyritz said. “But the bridge will be open.”
