“Willy Wonka Jr.”: Whitman Middle School, 11100 W. Center St., will present the musical “Willy Wonka Jr.” at 7 p.m. (also 4 p.m. Saturday). More than 100 students are involved. Tickets cost $5 at the door.

Spring Band Concert: The Wisconsin Lutheran College Concert Band concludes its season with a spring concert at 7:30 p.m. at the Schwan Concert Hall in the Center for Arts and Performance at the college, 88th Street and Bluemound Road. Mother’s Day at the Zoo: All mothers will receive free admission to the Milwaukee County Zoo, 10001 W. Bluemound Road, from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The special event “M.O.M.” (Missing Orangutan Mothers) will take place in the Primates of the World building. Zookeepers and volunteers will host activities bringing attention to the crisis facing wild orangutans and what can be done to conserve this species. Children also can create a monkey mask to wear during their visit between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. Regular zoo admission is $14.25 for adults, $11.25 for children ages 3 to 12, $13.25 for seniors age 60 and over, and free for children 2 and younger; Milwaukee County residents with an identification get $1.75 off. Parking costs $12.

Pancakes With Mom: The Wauwatosa Crime Stoppers will host an all-you-can-eat pancake breakfast from 8 to 11:30 a.m. at Hart Park’s Muellner Building, 7300 W. Chestnut St. There will be flowers for mom, and balloons, games and prizes for the kids. McGruff the Crime Dog will make an appearance. Tickets are available at the door for $7 for adults and $3 for children ages 3 to 8; kids 2 and younger get in free.

Afternoons with Autumn: Children in 5-year-old kindergarten through fifth grade can read out loud to therapy dog Autumn for 10 to 15 minutes between 3:30 and 4:30 p.m. at the Wauwatosa Public Library, 7635 W. North Ave. Sign your child up for a spot by calling 414-471-8486. Autumn’s owner will be present in the room but will not interact with the child while they read.

"The Hidden Impact of Segregation on Milwaukee County": Tosa Together, the Wauwatosa West High School Black Student Union and the Wauwatosa School District will present Reggie Jackson, head griot for America's Black Holocaust Museum, from 6:30 to 8:15 p.m. at the auditorium at Wauwatosa West High School, 11400 W. Center St. Jackson will discuss the shared history of racial segregation and the present implications for change. “Margaret and the Moon” Event: Author Dean Robbins will present the book “Margaret and the Moon” at the Wauwatosa Public Library, 7635 W. North Ave., from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. His book about Margaret Hamilton, the NASA director of software programming for Project Apollo, features cartoon-style illustrations that add levity to the work and make discussion of Hamilton’s complex job appealing and understandable to a young audience.

Opening Day at The Landing: The Landing at Hoyt Park and Pool will open for the season. The beer garden will be open from 3 to 9 p.m. Wednesday through Friday and noon to 9 p.m. Saturday, Sunday and holidays. The season ends Oct. 29.

Music at The Landing at Hoyt: Milwaukee singer-songwriter Ethan Keller will perform from 5 to 8 p.m. at The Landing at Hoyt Park and Pool, 1800 N. Swan Blvd.

Backgammon tourney: The Milwaukee Backgammon Club will host a tournament at 6:30 p.m. at Rounding Third Sports Bar & Grill, 6317 W. Bluemound Road. The tournament includes a Main Flight and a Consolation Flight — guaranteeing at least two 5-point matches for everyone who enters — plus an optional side pool. The entry fee is $6.
