Wauwatosa East track team has some talented returnees
Red Raider boys open with busy week
It was a busy week for the Wauwatosa East boys track team last week, as the Red Raiders opened with a quadrangular March 12 and then took part in the Nelson/Daniel Invitational on Saturday at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater.
New coach Tim Reichelt has some key returning athletes this season.
Dan Gagne, Jack Lockhart, RJ Salmon and Steffen Uhrich lead the distance runners and Joe Rebholz, Sully Schermerhorn and John Serrano are the key returning sprinters.
Two other returnees are Nick Pridgeon in the sprints and hurdles and Kevin Karraker in the throws.
Reichelt also expects the following athletes to contribute: Clay Ristow, Deshawn Reynolds in distance; Jaleel King, Desmond Cooper, Carl Behlmer and Jack Blazek in the sprints; Kellen Moye in the hurdles; Danny Erickson in the throws and Jake Meidl in the pole vault.
The boys finished 16th at the Nelson/Daniels Classic over the weekend, scoring 15 points. Oconomowoc won the event with 54 points, narrowly beating Arrowhead (51).
Uhrich finished third in the 800 (2:02.24), Gagne was fourth in the 1600 and Salmon was sixth in the 1600 (4:31.55) giving the Red Raiders three top-10 finishes.
Two other athletes finished in the top-20: Jack Mouradian took 14th in the 3200 (10:34.65) and Serrano was 17th in the 400 (57.02).
The Red Raiders started the week by finishing last at the West Allis Central Quad. Franklin won the event (69), edging West Allis Central (68), Whitnall (57) and Tosa East (37).
Evan Bertz won the 800 (2:14.10), Karraker won the shot put (40-6) and the 4x800 relay of Gagne, Salmon, Uhrich and Lockhart also took first (8:54.00).
Moye won the 55 high hurdles (9.7) and was second in the 55 low hurdles (8.7+).
Schermerhorn won the 55 (7.1) and Rebholz took second (7.11+), while Mouradian won the 1600 (5:01.10) and John Bruckbauer was second (5:17.10).
The 4x400 relay of Rebholz, Schermerhorn, Angel Schilling and Behlmer also took second (4:01.60).
