Tosa grapplers whip Greenfield

Dec. 12, 2011 | 0 comments

The Wauwatosa wrestling team was missing three starters but still went out and crushed Greenfield on Dec. 7 on the road.

The grapplers had eight pins, a decision and two forfeits to roll to a 63-12 victory.

The pin winners were Eric Ehlert at 132 pounds (5 minutes, 25 seconds); Alex Comte at 152 (2:36), Sam Bertz at 160 (3:05); Akeem Harris at 170 (5:54), Larry Bryant at 182 (3:00), John Brennan at 220 (:40 seconds), Anthony DeHoyos at 285 (1:20) and Kai Castaneda at 113 (1:48).

Ben Reagan at 120 won an 8-1 decision and Matt Miller at 195 and Sean McDuffie at 106 won on forfeit.

"I was pleased with our performance last night." Tosa coach Kent Morin said. "We were missing three starters so we weren't sure about the night. We knew if we wrestled well, we should win the meet but we just didn't see a 63-12 margin of victory as a possibility.

"Eric Ehlert got us going with a solid match that he finished off with a pin in the third period. Eric is one of our captains and he is taking his leadership role very seriously. After Michael Meade was upset by Dominic Kroll, we needed some guys to pick it up. Four pins in a row by Comte, Bertz, Harris and Bryant did that and essentially put the meet out of reach for Greenfield.

Morin then talked about the Hustlin' Hawks, a team coached by his brother, Keith, who retired after last season.

"Greenfield is definitely down this year," he said. "They are going through a transition to the new coach. The new coach is young and still trying to find his way. They do have some really good wrestlers though in (Alec) Adams and Kroll."

Tosa improved to 6-1 on the season with the top records on the team belong to Brennan (7-0), Reagan (6-1), AJ Minucci and Bertz 5-1, Meade (4-1) and Castaneda, Ehlert and Harris, all 5-2.
