Hurricanes swimmers return seven letter winners

Dec. 5, 2011 | 0 comments

The Wauwatosa Hurricanes co-op boys swim team for Wauwatosa East/West will return seven swimmers/divers for coach Heidi Goetsch.

Senior captains Peter Hovel and Caleb Hernday lead the returnees along with senior Alex Season, juniors Max Brovarney, Sam Heiresman and diver Tony Benz and sophomore Eddie Galindo.

Goetsch will also have a talented freshman in Jack Lutz.

"With his strong background he will fit right in with our varsity," Goetsch said.

The swimming numbers have increased, but it will be a rebuilding season.

"This here is a rebuilding year," Goetsch said. "However I have very high hopes with what the boys can do. Our numbers have gone up which helps us come back from losing a bunch of strong swimmers/divers last year.

"Many of the boys trained and practiced in the off-season and therefore we're off to a good start. Some are even ahead of where they were last year."

The Hurricanes will be led by returning state qualifiers Hovel and Hernday, of course.

"We are also looking forward to what Galindo, Brovarney, Benz and Lutz can do," Goetsch said. "Hopefully we can yet again this year get a couple of relays and individuals to state."

Goetsch is especially pleased with her team's attitude.

"The boys have the drive, the desire and a strong team cheering them on," she said. "Every boy on this Wauwatosa team is ready and able to step up into the void last year's seniors left."
