Jan. 24, 2012 | 0 comments

The Wauwatosa Hurricanes began the week on Jan. 19 by blowing away Pius XI at home, 139-43, and then finished fifth in the Menomonee Falls Indian Invitational on Saturday.

"We had a great meet," Tosa coach Heidi Goetsch said, as the Hurricanes won nine events against the Popes.

All three relay teams took first - the 200-yard medley relay of Eddie Galindo, Noah Froh, Jack Lutz and Stuart VanderVelde (2 minutes, 3.31 seconds); the 200 free relay of John Kay, Jake Falk, Lutz and Max Brovarney (1:44.79); and the 400 free relay of Sam Hierseman, Edward Lei, Michael Siverling and Brovaney (3:56.62).

Caleb Hernday was the only double individual winner in the 100 backstroke (1:08.30) and 100 breaststroke (1:13.32).

Lutz won the 200 free (2:04.38), Siverling the 200 individual medley (2:20.47), Sam Hiersman the 100 free (1:00.93) and Peter Hovel the 500 free (5:49.08).

Falls scored 446 points to swim away with its own title, as Bay Port finished a distant second (372) in the nine-team meet. Janesville Craig (351), Waukesha West/Mukwonago (317) and Tosa (223) were in the top five.

"It's a great meet," Goetsch said. "Overall there are a lot of great swims and races."

Lutz had the top Tosa finish - fifth in the 200 individual medley (2:16.17) while three individual and one relay team finished sixth.

Benz in the 1-meter diving (285.05), Hernday in the 200 free (1:58.85) and 500 free (5:29.75) and Galindo in the 100 back (1:01.75) and the 400 free relay of Brovarney, Lutz, Hovel and Hernday (3:40.38) were all sixth.
