The Wauwatosa West girls lost games to two of the better teams in the Woodland Conference with a combined 13-1 record.
They opened the week by losing to South Milwaukee, 47-34, Jan. 3 and then lost a 64-36 decision to Pewaukee on Friday, both games at Tosa West.
South Milwaukee is tied for first in the Black Division (7-0, 7-0) with New Berlin Eisenhower, while Pewaukee (6-1, 7-2) is tied for first in the Blue Division with Cudahy.
Considering the Trojans were shutout in the first quarter against the Rockets and didn't reach double figures until the final period, it is amazing that they only lost by 13 points to the Rockets.
South Milwaukee used an 11-0 first quarter and a 15-4 third quarter to take a 38-13 lead into the fourth quarter. The Trojans did score eight more points in the fourth quarter (21-9) than the first three combined.
The Rocket pair of Ellie (15 points) and Emily Puscheck (14) almost combined to out-score West by themselves.
Although eight girls scored for the Trojans, only sophomore guard Elise Ditscheit did any significant damage with 13 points, nine coming on three 3-pointers.
Unfortunately, the Trojans had the same slow-starting problem in the loss to the Pirates on Friday. Pewaukee doubled them up (18-9) in the first quarter and then blew them away with a 21-5 second period taking a 39-14 lead at halftime.
The Trojans only lost the second half 25-22, but once again it was too little, too late.
West coach Ron Gavinski had 10 in the scoring column.
Latasha Harmon led the way with nine points, Ashley Lindstrom had six and Jenna Lehmann scored five.
