Boys Swim: Hurricanes blow away St. Thomas More/St. Francis

The Wauwatosa Hurricanes defeated St. Thomas More/St. Francis, 122-57, at Tosa West in Woodland Conference dual-meet action Jan. 4.

"We had a great meet. This was a meet where we got to try a lot of new things, and it paid off," Tosa coach Heidi Goetsch said. The Hurricanes won every event. "The boys really have been working hard over holiday break, and this was a great start to the New Year."

Goetsch went on to praise Peter Hovel, Jack Lutz, Caleb Hernday, Max Brovarney, Michael Silverling, Eddie Galindo, Alex Swenson and diver Tony Benz.

The 200 medley relay of Hernday, Swenson, Hovel and Brovarney (1 minute, 57.18 seconds), the 200 freestyle relay of Hovel, Hernday, Lutz and Brovarney (1:44.01) and the 400 free relay of Swenson, Lutz, Stuart VanderVelde and Brovarney (4:02.44) all finished first.

The individual winners were Hovel in the 200 free (2:09.75) and 100 butterfly (1:03.29), Lutz in the 200 individual medley (2:17.76), Hernday in the 50 free (25.07), Brovarney in the 100 free (0:57.04), Silverling in the 500 free (5:43.01), Galindo in the 100 backstroke (1:04.17) and Swenson in the 100 breaststroke (1:20.32).

Benz won diving with 197.65.

"He had a fantastic meet, having one of the best scores I've seen out of him," Goetsch said.
