The Wauwatosa Hurricanes' 200 medley relay team broke a school record and won their event at the eight-team Bob White Invitational on Saturday at Wauwatosa West.
The 200 medley relay won in 1 minute, 44.22 seconds behind Lance Mielke, Will Utech, Jake Shackelford and Ethan Heinrich. The record was set in 1991.
"It was a strong showing," Wauwatosa coach Russ Weigel said. "I'm very happy how we swam. Things are coming together at the right time."
Wauwatosa was a solid fourth, scoring 298 points, well ahead of fifth-place Waukesha North/Kettle Moraine (232). Brookfield won the event with 558 points, easily beating second-place New Berlin Eisenhower/West (408). Greendale/Greenfield finished third. (346).
Utech had the only second-place finish, that coming in the 100 breaststroke (1:04.69). He also had one of five third-place finishes for the Hurricanes, finishing third in the 50 freestyle (23.44).
The other third-place showings were the 200 free relay of Mielke, Shackelford, Peter Hovel and Heinrich (1:35.26); Shawn Roll in the 1-meter diving (316.55); Shackelford in the 200 individual medley (2:08.69) and Mielke in the 100 backstroke (57.31).
Mielke was fourth in 50 free (23.45), and Shackelford was fourth in the 500 free (5:06.10). Heinrich took fifth in the 100 free (53.20).
The Hurricanes will take part in the Woodland Conference Tournament at Greendale/Greenfield. Diving starts at 10 a.m. and swimming at 1:30 p.m. Saturday.
