Wrestling: Tosa crushes Cudahy, 51-21, in conference dual as seven grapplers register pins

Feb. 2, 2010 | 0 comments

The Wauwatosa East/West co-op wrestling team tuned up for Saturday's Woodland Conference Tournament by winning, 51-21, at Cudahy on Jan. 28.

Tosa had seven winners by pin and three by decision against the Packers.

Brian Condon at 103 (0:35), Patrick Campbell at 119 (2:35), Eric Ehlert at 135 (3:08), Michael Meade at 140 (1:34), Ryan Reagan at 145 (1:28), Cory Jay at 160 (0:27) and Aaron Sobieszczyk at 189 (1:41) all won on pins.

Winners by decision were Riley O'Conor at 130 (7-3), Dylan Kissinger at 152 (3-2) and Ian Seybold at 171 (5-3).

"Overall, I was really happy for some of the young guys who came away with some big wins," Tosa coach Kent Morin said. "Campbell, Ehlert and Sobieszczyk all had really impressive matches. They came out aggressive and didn't stop until they got their pins. Cory Jay, wrestling with a bad cold, came away with a quick pin, which is exactly what he needed."

The big disappointment of the night was Demetrius Mensah, who was upset by Mitch Kraker 15-11.

"He fell behind early and just couldn't overcome the deficit," Morin said. "Though we would much rather have this match now than two weeks from now at regionals or sectionals. He will learn from it and come back stronger."

Individual conference records going into Saturday's tournament follow, as well as projected seeds.

Mensah (7-1, first), Reagan (6-1, second), Kissinger (6-1, second), Kevin Kanngeiser (5-2, third), Meade (5-2, third), Seybold (4-2, third), O'Conor (4-2, third or fourth), Condon (5-3, fourth) and Sobieszczyk (3-2, fourth).

Unseeded wrestlers are Campbell (4-4), Jonathan Tripi (2-6), Max Nelson (1-3) and Scott Kamholtz (1-4).
