West boys improve to 7-3 with two more wins

Jan. 20, 2010 | 0 comments

The Wauwatosa West boys improved to 7-3 in the Woodland Conference last week with victories over South Milwaukee and Greenfield, good enough for a second-place tie with Whitnall.

The Whitnall Falcons are coming to town at 7:30 p.m. Friday, and Tosa West coach Mike Landisch is hoping the Trojans can continue to win in league play, having won six of their last seven.

The Trojans beat South Milwaukee, 60-34, at home Jan. 12 and then hit the road and beat Greenfield, 57-48, thanks to a strong second half.

The Hustlin' Hawks led 9-7 after the first period and 24-22 at intermission, but Landisch's team came out on a 16-9 third-quarter run for a 38-33 lead going into the final period.

The Trojans got fouled going to the basket and went to the free-throw line 25 times, sinking 19 of them, a .760 success rate. Anthony Carroll (six), Ray Sterling (five) and A.J. Krause (four) led the way from the charity stripe.

Carroll continues to shine offensively, as he scored a game-high 24 points, while Sterling added 14.

In their first game of the week, the Trojans went on an 18-0 run to open the second quarter (21-4) and blew away the Rockets with a 31-11 lead at halftime. Carroll, who led both teams with 17 points, and Sterling each scored six points in the period to spark the rally.
