Boys basketball: Raiders meet East, Marquette

Dec. 8, 2009 | 0 comments

The Wauwatosa East boys basketball team (1-1) will hit the road for games at Brookfield East on Friday and archrival Marquette on Tuesday.

Both games start at 7:30 p.m.

Going into this week, the Red Raiders had not played since losing to De Pere, 52-44, on Nov. 28. That game followed a 45-44 win over Ashwaubenon on Nov. 27.

Tosa East hosted Brookfield Central on Tuesday night in the Greater Metro Conference opener after WauwatosaNOW went to press.

The Red Raiders have a new look this season, and so far, coach Tim Arndorfer is pleased with what he has seen - in practice as well as in the first two games.

"The compatibility of this group right now is ahead of where it has been the last two years at this stage," Arndorfer said. "We have had to build that over the course of the season. We have that cohesiveness already."

But the Red Raiders do have some weaknesses.

"We're searching for consistency and we don't have the depth that we have had in the past," Arndorfer said. "That will come."

Seniors Jake Larson (point guard), Matty Patton (two guard) and Danny Sayles (small forward) started along with sophomores Vince Cupertino (forward) and 6-foot, 5-inch Darrell Bowie, a transfer from Whitefish Bay Dominican.

"Darrell fits in well," Arndorfer said. "He has a lot of skills and he is only a sophomore.

"Aaron Uden will also see some time, as will Walter Clark Jr., who has been very impressive, but he is battling some injuries. Donnell Jones has also come off the bench to provide some scoring spark."
