May Mania Meet
Facing some of the best swimmers in the states of Wisconsin and Illinois, the Tosa Swordfish participated in the Blue Devil Swim Club's May Mania Meet May 17 to 19 at the Pleasant Prairie RecPlex.
This was the first meet of the season where swimmers competed in a long course pool, which is 50 meters long, rather than in a short course pool, which is 25 yards long. Three athletes from the Swordfish were able to score points for the team by finishing within the top 16 of their individual event.
"This was a highly competitive meet," coach Jackie Jecha said. "We won't see this caliber of competition for the rest of the season, and I am extremely proud of how well our team swam."
Of the 17 athletes who competed, the three swimmers who scored points for the Swordfish were as follows:
13 & 14 year-old boys — Joey Rampolla: 16th-100 meter breaststroke.
15 years & older girls — Ellie Krummel: 11th-400 meter freestyle
15 years & older boys — Matt Olenchek: 10th-50 meter free, 16th-100 meter breast.
