The Wauwatosa Hurricanes - admitting that making it to state was the big accomplishment - gained some important experience this past weekend.
The Hurricanes sent four swimmers to the WIAA State Boys Swimming & Diving Meet at the University of Wisconsin's Natatorium on Saturday.
Sophomores Jake Falk and Jack Lutz, junior Eddie Galindo and senior Max Brovarney made up the 200-yard freestyle relay, which finished 17th, only 0.01 from scoring points.
"It was the highest finish for a Tosa relay in four years," Hurricanes coach Heidi Goetsch said.
The only swimmer who qualified in an individual event was Galindo in the 100 backstroke.
Galindo, who was seeded 24th, moved up a spot and finished 23rd in the 100 backstroke in 56.04 seconds.
"Overall, state was a lot of fun," Goetsch said, "and getting to state was the toughest battle.
"With a relay consisting of only one senior (Brovarney), it was a great opportunity for our younger swimmers to get acquainted with the UW-Madison Natatorium.
"This was great exposure for the team/school, and the outlook for next year is very promising."
