GIRLS SOCCER Positive season for Wauwatosa West kickers

Wauwatosa West coach Jon Gulrajani had several reasons to be happy with the 2012 girls soccer season.

The Trojans had a 14-6-3 overall record and went undefeated in the Woodland Conference (9-0-2), but finished second to New Berlin Eisenhower (10-1), who they beat handily but lost out by the point system (30-29).

The Trojans, who played a tough schedule and had decent results, scored 20 more goals than last year, allowed 11 fewer goals and only allowed four goals in conference play.

"We did fall short on some goals," Gulrajani said, "which should be great motivation for next year. The thing that I am most proud of was how our team and community handled adversity. This game gave us a chance to show compassion, caring and generosity. This will be a lesson much larger than any I can teach."

Gulrajani will lose Jenna Lahmann, Jenna Engel, Ellen Sauter, Lauren Jaworowicz, Megan Falk and Natasha DeAsis to graduation.

"Our seniors were great leaders and really gave us excellent effort on and off the field," Gulrajani said. "Each contributed in so many ways and I am excited to see four players will play at the next level - Lahmann (University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh), Engel (St. Thomas), Sauter (DePauw) and Jaworowicz (Cardinal Stritch).

"Megan Falk was our scholar athlete and will attend Iowa and DeAsis was a foreign exchange student who really adapted well and led the team in assists," Gulrajani added.

Anna Stadler was the Conference Player of the Year and a first-team selection along with Engel, Lahmann, Katelyn Hronek and Sabelle Seabrook.

Sauter was second-team and DeAsis, Jessica Pike and Mia Tripi were honorable mention selections.

The Trojans give out two team awards - the MVP went to the talented Lahmann and the Most Improved went to Tripi.

And the cupboard is far from bare.

"We have a very strong group of players returning next year that really want to complete more goals and raise the level of this team," Gulrajani said.

Top returners are juniors Stadler, Hronek, Tripi, Pike, Seabrook, Maggie Boyle, Ashley Colebourne, Jillian Ditscheit, Christina Meyer, Adrianna Luna- Garcynski, Erin Billstrom, and Ellen Restyanski and sophomores Alyssa Heyer, Sarah Henson, Alex Heyer, Gena Schaut and Maggie Fuhrman.
