Benjamin Sebena, accused of shooting his wife, Wauwatosa Police Officer Jennifer Sebena, while she was on duty Christmas Eve, waived a preliminary hearing Jan. 3 at the Milwaukee County Criminal Justice Facility in Milwaukee and was bound over for trial Jan. 24.
Sebena, in a wheelchair and wearing a Velcro, suicide-prevention coverall, was represented by attorney Michael Steinle. Court Commissioner Barry Slagle asked Sebena if he understood the charges he faces and the waiver of the hearing, and he said he did. More than a dozen law enforcement personnel were in the courtroom. The hearing took less than five minutes.
Officer Jennifer Sebena's body was found at about 4:30 a.m. Dec. 24 outside the Wauwatosa Fire Station at 1601 Underwood Ave. after she had failed to respond to a call from dispatch. She was shot in the back of the head and in the face.
Benjamin Sebena called the police department asking about his wife at about 6:35 a.m. and was asked to come to the police station. At the station, he reportedly confessed to the shooting and was arrested later that day.
