What can be done about noisy air-conditioners?
Issue: The office building near a reader's home has a loud air-conditioning unit and she wants to know how to address the issue.
Status: Jim Beix, epidemiologist with the Wauwatosa Health Department, said that the city doesn't get complaints about air-conditioner noise very often, but there is an ordinance that addresses this issue.
However, Beix explained, the ordinance is vague and doesn't have strong teeth.
When these issues arise, a resident can complain to the Health Department and the city tries to work with owner of the air-conditioner to see if it is properly maintained, Beix said.
He also suggested that residents can work with their aldermen to mediate the situation.
