Is there a rumor you've heard that you would like to track down? Is there something in the community that needs to get fixed? Mary Malahy explains some of the mysteries of life in the Tosa area.
Beautification awards criteria explained
Issue: A reader wants to know what criteria the Wauwatosa Beautification Committee considers when choosing the recipients of the Yard of Distinction awards.
Status: Marge Donegan, president of the Wauwatosa Beautification Committee, gave me a list of criteria the committee considers.
The contest seeks yards whose caretakers consistently maintain a high-quality landscape, significantly improve the existing landscape, creatively feature plant materials or hardscape materials, display good use of color, display pleasing seasonal flowers, substantially enhance the appearance of the residence or business, or create excellent curb appeal for the property.
The structure cannot violate any codes or be in need of obvious maintenance, the plantings cannot violate municipal or state law, and the same residence cannot win the award more than once every five years.
