A dog that bit a child in the face last year injured an elderly woman who was caring for the animal Monday afternoon. According to Wauwatosa police:
An 81-year-old woman was taken to Froedtert Hospital because beagle mix clamped down on her ankle pulling away the skin so her muscle and tendon were exposed.
She was taking care of the 14-year-old dog for her daughter, who lives in the 2200 block of North 62nd Street. She had just returned from walking the dog when it refused to enter the house. The dog pulled at its leash causing the woman to fall into a fence. When she was down the animal charged and bit her.
Officers were familiar with the dog because it had bitten a toddler in the face in May 2009. It had been quarantined for a short time until the owner could prove it was up to date on its vaccines.
The officers cited the 57-year-old woman who owns the canine for a vicious dog violation. The animal will again be quarantined in the house and the Health Department will investigate.
The officer had to use a noose pull to get the dog into the house because it bit his boot and was snapping its teeth.
