Probation given in attack on Wauwatosa cross-country runner

June 4, 2010

Waukesha - One of the two 18-year-old Brookfield men charged in the beating of a Wauwatosa West High School student pleaded guilty to misdemeanor disorderly conduct Friday and was sentenced to one year of probation.

Waukesha County Circuit Judge Mac Davis also ruled that Jonathan M. Bibb will have the opportunity to get the conviction expunged, if he follows the conditions of probation.

A hearing on that request is set for June 6, 2011.

The other defendant, David J. Jameson, is scheduled to enter a plea and be sentenced July 23. He is charged with disorderly conduct and battery, both misdemeanors.

The men were charged after an African-American student who was running along with three other Wauwatosa West cross-country runners was injured after being struck in Lamplighter Park in Brookfield on Oct. 21.

Police initially believed the incident was racially motivated, but later said it was not.

The two defendants initiated the contact with the runners, but the first punch may have been thrown by one of the runners, according to police.
