Public Forum:
How incredibly disappointing that the Wauwatosa School District will use an additional 270 Open Enrollment students to plug a budget shortfall next year.
That's almost like adding the entire student body from another school, yet none of these students will be from Wauwatosa. Some of these kids will enter our system in first grade and will be with the district for the next 12 years, until they graduate from high school. Over time, the cost to local property taxpayers will be astronomical.
I will never cease to be amazed at the inability of the School Board and administration to create a school system that is the correct size for Wauwatosa residents and Wauwatosa taxpayers.
It appears to simply be much easier to accept more Open Enrollment students and take the state money that comes with them than it is to make responsible decisions.
With 270 more Open Enrollment students, why not just change the district name to the Milwaukee Public School System-Wauwatosa Annex?
