Public Forum:

I understand that the West Suburban Chamber of Commerce has endorsed the idea of selling 89 acres of County Grounds to the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. I am a member of the West Suburban Chamber of Commerce and totally oppose such a plan.

I'm upset that the chamber would presume to speak for me. The northwest quadrant of the County Grounds is a fragile but working ecosystem that is unique to Milwaukee County. It can't be moved. It can't be replaced. For butterflies and other wildlife to thrive here, we must preserve their natural habitat and not substitute an artificial landscape. This is a precious resource for the community and the engineering school should not be built here.
