Wauwatosa - A proposal by two aldermen to temporarily cut the salaries of all 16 aldermen has been put on hold by the Common Council's Committee on Employee Relations.
The committee's vote on Tuesday night means the proposal probably would not be considered until September, when the council takes up the 2010 city budget, City Administrator Jim Archambo said Wednesday.
Aldermen Dennis McBride and Jacqueline Jay proposed that salaries be cut by $100 a month for one year "in response to the economic conditions in the community," according to a memo. The savings would be $19,200.
Aldermen are paid $350 a month, an amount that was set in 1982.
