Two juveniles were arrested in connection to the theft of an iPod Touch and change from a sport-utility vehicle in the 2500 block of North 63rd Street and the theft of U.S. and foreign change from a car in the 2500 block of North 63rd Street about 12:40 a.m. Aug. 26. The name, age and community of residence of the people arrested was redacted from the police report.
A girl was arrested for driving a vehicle without the owner's consent, obstructing an investigation and on a warrant after she was involved in a hit-and-run collision in the parking lot outside Macy's at Mayfair, 2500 N. Mayfair Road, about 11:40 a.m. Aug. 27. A woman's car was hit by a van that drove off, but mall security found the van in the parking garage beneath AMC Theaters. The van's steering column was stripped and its ignition removed. The girl told officers she had not been involved in stealing the van, but was just using it. She gave officers multiple false names for herself.
A man was arrested for possessing stolen property at 72nd Street and Capitol Drive at 12:53 p.m. Aug. 27. An officer saw a motorcycle driving with a loud radio near Highway 100 and Capitol Drive, and ran its registration. It came back stolen. The man was pulled over, and told the officer that a friend had bought the bike for him, but registered and insured it in her name. In October, 2012, it was stolen, and the friend filed a claim and received payment from the insurance company. He said he later saw someone riding his bike, struck the person and took the bike back. He said he never reported that he had found the bike or let his friend know.
A mountain bicycle was stolen from a driveway in the 4000 block of Menomonee River Parkway between 3:15 and 4 p.m. Aug. 27. Loss is estimated at $60.
A bag of school supplies, three DVDs and $2 were stolen from an unlocked car in the 2300 block of North 119th Street between 11:30 p.m. Aug. 27 and 6:15 a.m. Aug. 28. Cigarettes and $5 were stolen from a second unlocked car in the same driveway. Total loss is estimated at $55.
The Home Depot, 4100 N. 124th St., reported on Aug. 28 that two men were involved in the theft of two power drill sets from the store Aug. 16. The first man bought a drill in cash and left the store. The second man came in a short time later and took a drill set from the shelves and used the other man's receipt to try to return it for cash. The return was declined because the drill set he grabbed wasn't the same one the other man had purchased. He took two drill sets, a total value of about $400, with him when he left the store. Security officers believe the two men are part of a theft ring that has targeted the home improvement store in recent weeks.
Two men stole a bag filled with 29 cartons of cigarettes from Walgreens, 2275 N. Mayfair Road, about 7:15 p.m. Aug. 27. Loss is estimated at $1,982.
About $150 was taken from a car in the 600 block of North 79th Street between 11 p.m. Aug. 27 and 6:30 a.m. Aug. 28. About $3 was taken from another car in the same driveway.
A Dodge Grand Caravan mini-van was stolen from a driveway in the 2300 block of North 61st Street between 9 p.m. Aug. 28 and 7:20 a.m. Aug. 29. A shotgun, which the owner uses for trap shooting, golf clubs, an air pump and a suitcase were in the vehicle at the time of the theft.
A handgun was stolen from the center console of a vehicle in the 10900 block of Glenway Court between 3:30 p.m. Aug. 28 and 6:50 p.m. Aug. 29. The owner did not know if the vehicle was locked at the time of the theft. There were no signs of forced entry and nothing else was taken from the vehicle.
A driver stole about $50 worth of gasoline from BP, 12324 W. North Ave., about 8:45 p.m. Aug. 29.
Two bottles of prescription medication were stolen from a vehicle in the 2500 block of North 63rd Street between 11 p.m. Aug. 25 and 12:30 a.m. Aug. 26. An officer on patrol saw the vehicle's dome light was on and looked inside, noting that it appeared to have been rummaged through. He contacted the vehicle owner.
A $169 drill was stolen from The Home Depot, 4100 N. 124th St., about 12:40 p.m. Aug. 26. The theft is believed to be connected to other similar thefts at the store in recent weeks.
A bicycle was stolen from the parking lot at Lutheran Home for the Aging, 7501 W. North Ave., between 7 a.m. and 3 p.m. Aug. 27. The cable used to secure the bike had been cut. Loss is estimated at $600.
The rear screen on a truck's cap was ripped while it was parked next to a garage in the 2400 block of North 63rd Street between 10 p.m. Aug. 25 and 3 a.m. Aug 26. Damage is estimated at $100.
Landscaping rocks were used to damage two vehicles in a driveway in the 4500 block of North 108th Street between 7 p.m. Aug. 26 and 4 a.m. Aug. 27. Damage is estimated at $800. One vehicle was scraped in multiple places, and a window on the other vehicle was smashed.
A man was arrested for driving under the influence of drugs at 68th Street and North Avenue at 5:52 p.m. Aug. 29. The man's name, age and community of residence were redacted from the police report.
A man was cited with disorderly conduct after fighting with and pushing a postal carrier in the 6900 block of West Center Street at 10:20 a.m. Aug. 21. The man is a student and became angry when his financial aid check did not arrive with his mail.
Mayfair Title Corp., 1011 N. Mayfair Road, reported on Aug. 26 that two people had contacted the business stating they had received $1,650 checks from the business, with instructions to cash the checks, keep $200 for themselves and wait for instructions on what to do with the rest of the money. The checks were not issued by the company and did not match the company's check design, but did have the company's financial account number correct.
