While allegedly holding up Walgreens, 10800 W. Capitol Dr., at gunpoint, a 22-year-old West Allis man hit a bout of bad luck due to an officer being outside the store at 1:14 p.m. last week.
According to the Wauwatosa police report:
The man came into the store March 5 with a mask on and demanded the clerks give him all the Oxycontin and Oxycodone pills they had. He got three bottles of the pills and ran out of the store.
He ditched his gun in a snowbank and was running down an alley when the Wauwatosa police officer drove his squad between the fleeing man and his getaway vehicle. The man sprinted off before officers caught him after he fell.
His girlfriend was in the getaway vehicle. Officers took them both to the station, where he admitted to previously robbing CVS Pharmacy, 7520 W. Bluemound Road, Feb. 18 with a knife.
He admitted to robbing another CVS in Milwaukee. He got more than 1,000 Oxycodone and Oxycontin pills from the robberies. He said after seeing his name on television as being wanted for the robberies he ran away to Michigan's Lac Vieux Desert Casino with his girlfriend.
There, he said the two would use up to 30 tablets a day, injecting and snorting the Oxycodone and Oxycontin. When the two ran out, he said, he went back for the March 5 robbery.
He also said that he unloaded the gun before going into the store and that he didn't want to hurt anybody.
