Sarah Herman and Christopher Axtell were married Sept. 6, 2009, at the rooftop garden of the Museum of Contemporary Art in Madison.

Parents of the bride are Tom and Laurie Herman of Cincinnati, Ohio. Parents of the groom are David Axtell and Lynne Schade, both of Wauwatosa.

The Honorable Tom Donegan officiated the 5 p.m. ceremony, which was followed by a reception in the garden.

The bride wore a simple, ivory silk gown with an A-line skirt and slight train. She carried a bouquet of wildflowers.

Maid of honor was Sita McInally of Jackson Hole, Wyo., friend of the bride. Bridesmaids were Rachael Herman of Cincinnati, Rosie Trahey of Detroit and Annie Miller of Traverse City, Mich.

Best man was Peter Axtell of Wauwatosa, brother of the groom. Groomsmen were Fred Hoppe of Wauwatosa, Tommy Herman of Columbus, Ohio, and Christian Herman of Cincinnati.

Ushers were Mike Gerhardt and Dan Raasch, both of Boulder, Colo.

The bride, who earned her degree in nutrition from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, is pursuing her doctorate in naturopathic medicine at the National College of Natural Medicine in Portland, Ore.

The groom, who is a 2000 graduate of Wauwatosa East High School and earned his degree in education from UW-Madison, is the business accelerator program director at Portland State University.

The couple met in Madison and became engaged at the top of Mt. Tabor in Portland on Valentine's Day.

They will honeymoon in Hawaii at Christmas. They reside in Portland.
