Elizabeth Reilly Duchelle, a native of New Haven, Conn., a longtime resident of Wauwatosa, died July 1, 2009, at age 77.
She was a graduate of the St. Raphael's School of Nursing in New Haven. She worked as a registered nurse in New Haven; Washington, D.C.; and retired from Milwaukee County Hospital after a 22-year career as a surgical nurse.
Always a champion of justice and equality, she lent her support to many causes. She was a passionate student of history, and enjoyed visiting China, England, Ireland, Mexico and Italy. Her creativity, knowledge and her sense of humor were a joy to all who knew her. She loved rock 'n' roll, especially the Beatles, Sting and the Rolling Stones. She loved post offices, visiting lighthouses and spent many happy vacations on the Outer Banks, N.C.
She is survived by her children, Elizabeth Schuller (John) of Wauwatosa, Kathleen Duchelle (Douglas Smith) of Silver Spring, Md., Michael Duchelle (Laura) of West Bend and Martin Duchelle (Nicole) of Lake City, Minn.; eight grandchildren; brother, John Reilly (Mary Lou) of Hartford, Conn.; other relatives and friends.
A memorial service will take place on July 16 at 11 a.m. at Gesu Catholic Church, 12th Street and Wisconsin Avenue, Milwaukee. Family will receive friends at Gesu from 9:30 a.m. until time of the service. Inurnment will be at Christ Church, Kensington, Md.
Memorials are suggested to "Doctors Without Borders."
Church and Chapel Funeral Home handled the arrangements.
