The Rev. Harold C. Bradley died July 10, 2009, at the St. Camillus Community at age 84.
He was ordained June 15, 1961. He was the assistant to the vice president for federal relations at Marquette University.
He graduated from Rockhurst High School in Kansas City, Mo., in 1943, and was immediately drafted to the United States Army. He fought in World War II, serving as a tank commander in Italy at Rome-Arno, North Appennines and Po Valley. He was awarded the Purple Heart.
He later returned to Kansas City and received his bachelor of arts degree in history and economics from Rockhurst University in 1949. He joined the Society of Jesus at St. Stanislaus Seminary in Florissant, Mo., in 1949, and was ordained 1961 in St. Mary's, Kansas. He also received his master of arts and doctorate degrees in American History from St. Louis University.
At Marquette, among programs he started or touched were the Kenyan "Train the Trainer" program in which nurses received training for AIDS/HIV patients; the "Anacrobic Digestion/Poop-to-Power" program, a campus beautification and native tree project; an Indian Tribal magazine; and the Haiti Sustainability project, which aspires to bring clean water and public restrooms to the country of Haiti.
Prior to joining Marquette, he was at Georgetown University from 1971 to 1995. He held the positions of assistant to the president on federal relations, director of the Office of International Programs, and founder and director, Center for Immigration Policy and Refugee Assistance. He is survived by his siblings, Celia Bradley and Frank Bradley, both of Kansas City; 14 nieces and nephews, 26 great-nieces and -nephews; other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his sisters, Catherine Bradley McQueeny and Mary O. Bradley.
Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated July 13 at Camillus Court East Chapel, Wauwatosa. Graveside service was July 14 at Calvary Cemetery.
Memorials are suggested to the Jesuit Partnership Appreciated.
