April 14, 2009 | 0 comments

Grace Godfrey Forester of Wauwatosa died March 28, 2009, at age 100.

She was born in the mining community of Calumet in the Keweenaw peninsula of Michigan during the copper boom, where she was baptized in the First Congregational Church of Calumet in 1911. At the age of 5 she moved to Wauwatosa with her family; she remained a lifelong resident. She was a graduate of Wauwatosa High School and attended Oberlin College and the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

She was a gourmet cook and an accomplished painter, and had an unparalleled eye for decorating. She became a member of the First Congregational Church of Wauwatosa in 1923. She was ever the gracious hostess in her welcoming home and a gentle listener to each and every one of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She is survived by her children, James G. (DeDe) Forester, Mary (Ronald) Bero, Martha (Jon) Bruss and Nancy (Stephen) Hayes; 21 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Richard M. Forester.

A memorial service will be held at 4:30 p.m. Friday, May 8, at the church, 1511 Church St., Wauwatosa.

Memorials are suggested to the First Congregational Church of Wauwatosa.
