Norbert L. Pitterle

Feb. 24, 2009 | 0 comments

Norbert L. "Norb" Pitterle of Wauwatosa died Feb. 18, 2009, at age 79.

He was born in Milwaukee on Dec. 28, 1929, to Leo and Ann Pitterle. After graduation from Boy's Tech High School, he joined the Army and served in Puson, South Korea, during the Korean War.

Returning home, he began work at the U.S. Postal Service but decided to return to school. He studied at University of Wisconsin-Madison, graduating with a degree in nuclear engineering. He was employed for 20 years at the Point Beach Nuclear Power Plant, where he developed the computer program to trace the ordering, delivery and use of uranium and plutonium needed to generate electric power.

Being together with family was a special joy for Norb. He was particularly grateful for his nieces and nephews and always looked forward to spending time with them. He was also proud to be godfather to one niece, three nephews and the daughter of a friend.

This love of family was especially evident in the hundreds and hundreds of pages of genealogy that he compiled. His research took many devoted years and will remain a treasure for his family and generations to come. He was a life-long Packers fan and enjoyed a good card game, but one of his greatest avocations was his extensive stamp collection.

He is survived by his brother and sister, James (Carol) Pitterle and Joan (Frank) Boyle; sister-in-law, Therese Pitterle; other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his sister and brother-in-law, Agnes and Steve Poliak; brother and sister-in-law, Lawrence and Myola Pitterle; and brother, Tom Pitterle.

Memorial Mass was Feb. 24 at San Camillo Chapel. Private services were at Holy Cross Cemetery.

The family thanks the staff at the St. Camillus Campus for their loving care.

Becker Ritter Funeral Home handled the arrangements.
