Ronald Edward Barry

Jan. 20, 2009 | 0 comments

Ronald Edward Barry of King, formerly of Fox Point and Shorewood, died Jan. 14, 2009, at age 79.

He was born in Minneapolis, Minn., on April 28, 1929, to Thomas and Mabel Barry. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Marines during the Korean conflict, stationed in Korea and Japan. While in the service, he met his wife, Barbara, and they were married on May 16, 1953. He felt fortunate to marry not only the love of his life and wonderful mother to their children, but also a dependable partner for bridge.

He was a proud graduate of Riverside High School in Milwaukee. He graduated from Marquette University's School of Engineering and then Georgetown Law School. He specialized in patent law. He retired after many years of dedicated service from Foley and Lardner in Milwaukee.

While at Marquette, he was on the varsity football team. He was a supporter of the Marquette basketball team, having had tickets since 1959. He was a past member of Tripoli Country Club, where he played countless rounds of golf, and a past member of the Milwaukee Athletic Club, where he played racquetball or cards with friends.

His life consisted mainly of five things: practice of law, love of country, dedication to family, reverence to God and enjoyment of sports. His competitive nature went from extremely challenging to loving and enduring. His self-assurance was an innate quality that guided him in his law practice, military service and sports, while he looked to his faith and love of family to support him emotionally. He was a longtime member of St. Robert Parish in Shorewood.

He is survived by his children, Jenny (Glenn) Goldschmidt of Clintonville, Kathleen (Tom) Roozen of Bayside, Ron Jr. (Colleen) Barry of Cambridge, Ohio, Margaret (Peter) Leverenz of Shorewood, and Jim Barry of Wauwatosa; brother, Tom (Joyce) Barry of Brookfield; brothers-in-law, C. Benedict (Marilyn) Greenwell, Andrew (Jean) Greenwell and Robert (the late Anita) Greenwell; 12 grandchildren, other relatives and good friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Barbara Ann Barry (nee Greenwell).

Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Jan. 19 at St. Robert Catholic Church. Interment was at Resurrection Cemetery in Mequon.

The family thanks all the staff of the first floor residence wing at Answorth Hall for their care.

Memorials are suggested to the Wisconsin Veteran's Home, N2665 County Road QQ, King, WI 54946.

Feerick Funeral Home handled the arrangements.
