Late touchdown caps superb Tosa West season

Oct. 13, 2012 12:11 a.m. | A colorful fireworks display capped the season finale between Wauwatosa West and Greenfield on Friday night, but it was the explosive play on the field that proved to be the real spectacle.

Running back Greg Lewis’ three-yard touchdown run with 17 seconds left gave the Trojans a thrilling 28-21 Homecoming win and put an exclamation point on the team’s first playoff berth since 2006.

“We were able to find something at the end,” Tosa West head coach Matt Good said. “We were trying to get in for a field goal, but Greg’s a beast and was able to get into the end zone for us.”

While Tosa West (7-1) never trailed in the game, the Trojans had their hands full with an inspired Greenfield team. Despite their 2-6 record, the Hustlin’ Hawks played well on both sides of the ball and nearly came away with an upset.

The Trojans entered the night averaging more than 300 rushing yards per game, but Greenfield held Tosa West to 101 yards on the ground and forced three turnovers.

Alleged drunk driver goes three-wheeling after crash

Oct. 09, 2012 10:00 p.m. | A 26-year-old Wauwatosa man was stuck between the law and a wet place when he allegedly drunkenly crashed his car in the 1200 block of North 70th Street at 11:41 p.m. Oct. 3.

According to the Wauwatosa police report:

Police responding to an accident found the man rolling his tire up the road. The man was uneasy on his feet and slurring his speech. He smelled like alcohol.

The man said he was turning and hit a wet spot, which led to his crash. Police found that his vehicle did go sideways, hit a curb and crash into a flower bed. The vehicle lost its tire when it smashed into the curb. The man drove the three-wheeled vehicle into the nearby Pick 'n Save parking lot, where police found him.

He was cited with drunken driving. His blood-alcohol content was 0.14.

Driver admits to being too drunk to be behind wheel

Oct. 09, 2012 9:48 p.m. | A 42-year-old Brookfield man was cited for drunken driving after blowing through a flashing red light and stopping in the middle of an intersection in the 10800 block of West Bluemound Road at 3:28 a.m. Oct. 4.

According to the Wauwatosa police report:

When asked if he knew why he'd been pulled over, the man cut off the officer and said that he was driving like crazy and was a little buzzed.

When the officer said field sobriety tests would be conducted to see if the man was able to drive, the man interrupted again, saying "I'm not (able to drive)." He said the tests weren't worth doing because he was not able to drive.

He was taken for a blood draw so his blood-alcohol content could be determined. Results were not available.
