Alert neighbors help catch alleged Wauwatosa burglars

Jan. 15, 2013 10:09 a.m. | A concerned neighbor may have led police to alleged burglars while stopping another burglary.

According to the Wauwatosa police report:

A Wauwatosa woman was walking her dog when she saw two men walking around backyards in the 2100 block of North 64th Street at 11:02 a.m. Friday. Having walked her dog nearly every day down that block for years and not recognizing the two men, she called police.

Other strange events aroused the suspicion of neighbors. One woman had her doorbell ring twice, which she didn't answer. Her back door opened a few minutes later and, thinking it was her son, she called his name and the door quickly closed. A man in the neighborhood had his doorbell rung and he noticed a man circling around the back while he went to answer. "Is Marcus there?" asked a man later identified as one of the alleged prowlers. The man said no and closed the door.

Police conducted a quick search, revealing the two men. Police questioned them and came to learn that the men, both from Milwaukee and ages 19 and 20, had some items of interest on them. One had two iPods on him, one with a woman's name engraved on it.

Tosa police: Delivery driver reported possible robbery in progress, prompting tactical response

Jan. 14, 2013 3:42 p.m. | Wauwatosa police have reopened roads from 120th to 122nd streets and Watertown Plank and Elmhurst roads, which had been cordoned off this morning while they investigated a home in the 1300 block of 121st Street.

Property tax records show the home is owned by Frankie L. Jude Jr.

Public Information Officer Lt. Christopher Fox confirmed two people are being interviewed at the police station but said no one is in custody. He also said there were no injuries in today's event.

According to the Wauwatosa Police Department incident report, a delivery driver called the intended recipient of his delivery prior to dropping it off. Before the call disconnected, the person who answered said he was being robbed. The driver went to a nearby gas station and called police.

"In responding to the area, Wauwatosa police officers found nothing outwardly apparent, but contact was not able to be established with residents or occupants of the home," Fox said in a news release sent this afternoon.

Wauwatosa police dog's bite ends chase with alleged liquor thief

Jan. 14, 2013 10:29 a.m. | Wauwatosa police say a 38-year-old Milwaukee man was evading them - hopping fences, running through yards, ditching evidence and nearly getting away - until canine officer Addy got a hold of his right leg.

According to the Wauwatosa police report:

Employees of Sendik's, 8616 W. North Ave., called police about the man after they witnessed strange behavior on his part at 4:50 p.m. Jan. 6. The man was wearing a coat much too large for him, tried purchasing a bottle of distilled water and then said he didn't have the 99 cents to pay for it.

As soon as he left, the employees reviewed video surveillance footage that showed him spiriting off three bottles of liquor, a total value of $82.

A nearby officer was there in seconds. He spotted the man walking on the sidewalk, and asked him to answer some questions.
