Some quick thoughts on Brookfield and Wauwatosa basketball going into the New Year.
One of the most surprising revelations this year is Brookfield Central coach Mark Adams playing variations of a 1-3-1 zone. Adams is a strict believer of man-to-man defense, but with six of his eighth-man base rotation 6-foot-2 or bigger, it seemed like a natural move with the height and length of his team.
My last blog touched on the four boy teams going into the New Year, here's a couple thoughts on the girls side in Brookfield and Wauwatosa.
Brookfield Central is the dominate team among the four. The Lady Lancers are 4-0 in Greater Metro Conference and 6-3 overall, with losses coming to Mukwonago (2-8) in the opener, Oak Creek (7-3) and Dominican (9-0).
The next week will be a crucial time for the Brookfield Central, East and Wauwatosa East boys in the Greater Metro Conference basketball race.
The Lancers and Red Raiders meet tonight at Tosa East and the Red Raiders will be looking to avenge their 58-44 beating at BC in the conference opener on Dec.3.
Wauwatosa East boys basketball coach Tim Arndorfer should be sending Brookfield Central basketball coach Mark Adams a bottle of his favorite beverage after the Lancers did the Red Raiders a big favor Friday night.
The Lancers easily handled Marquette and knocked them out of a first place tie with Tosa East, who travels to MUHS Tuesday night to meet the Hilltoppers, now carrying with them a one-game lead.
