For more than 75 years, Easter Seals Southeast WI has been offering help and hope to children and adults living with disabilities, and to the families who love them. Through therapy, training, education and support services, Easter Seals creates life-changing solutions so that people with disabilities can live, learn, work and play.
Caregiving can be rewarding and frustrating, fun and discouraging, heartwarming and heartbreaking.
As National Caregiver month ends this week, the need for respite and quality services for caregivers and their loved one continues on. See how Peggy found help, hope and answers for her daughter Candy at the Easter Seals Adult Day Program so she could continue to work and run her business from at home.
For years, Peggy has been trying to find an adult day program for her daughter Candy. Numerous
tries proved unsuccessful since the programs were not adapted to meet Candy’s needs. The results have been that, for the past 10 years, Peggy has been meeting Candy’s daily needs while simultaneously trying to run her childcare business in her home.
The noise and daily activities of young children were proving stressful for Candy who was unhappy and oftenagitated. Caring for Candy while trying to run a business was also proving stressful for her mother.
Now Candy attends one of the four Easter Seals Adult day programs and looks forward to going to seeing her friends daily.
“The Easter Seals adult day program has been beneficial to us both. The program is wonderful and is customized to meet Candy’s needs. The staff puts a lot of thought into the daily and weekly activities and they know how to handle Candy if her behavior becomes difficult. I am now also more relaxed and productive and able to more effectively run my business during the day. Most importantly, I know Candy is safe and happy and has her smile back, and that means everything to me” says Peggy.
