If you are as tight-fisted as mysefl, particularly in these economically stressful times, then to take advantage of what I think is a great deal is a wise move. On Feb. 6 the Mitchell Park Domes, ph. (414) 649-9830 offers both the Train Show in full operation plus a Chinese New Year Celebration from 9am to 6pm - all for the general admission fee. I've seen a dragon parade on TV, but let me tell you, to see it real in front of you and hear the drums with all the colors and dancing was a real treat for my kids and me. Plenty to learn and good stuff to eat. For more information visit MilwaukeeChinese.org
If you're looking for something extraordinary and romantic to do with your spouse, girlfriend, boyfriend or significant other (or even with your children or grandchildren) on Valentines Day, then a great spot to stop would be the Mitchell Park Domes from 6:30pm to 9:30pm. The Valentines theme for the evening is "Hearts and Flowers" and live music by AhVantsoul along with food and a cash bar will be provided. With one acre of beautiful warm green space under glass in the Domes, there is plenty of room for romatic strolls and soul to soul gazes. The trains will be running in the show dome, too. Adult admission is $10 and youth ages 6-17 are $5. For more info call the Domes at (414) 649-9830.
My dad and I make a visit to the "Milwaukee Journal Sentinel Golfshow" at the Expo Center in State Fair Park each year and find that we have a very enjoyable time with lots to see and new golf gizmos to try, nothing to get aggravated about like sand traps or ponds, and some old acquaintances we run into who think the same way we do about the show. Its relaxing with lots of experts and pros on hand and its kind of like going to a fair but not having to pay to try and win something. You can go away with a couple bags full of stuff if you want to. Milwaukee County Parks has a great booth where you can update all your golf cards, make purchases and even win a free pass via a drawing every hour. Speaking of hours the show runs Fri., March 5 (1-8pm), Sat. March 6 (10am-5pm) and Sun. March 7 (10am-4pm).
