Gas Pains
Tom grew up in Milwaukee, bartended in Wauwatosa in the '70s and moved here in 1984.
Commentary, observations and musings about the outdoors, life in general and maybe Tosa politics and personalities will be the order of the day. He savors a lively debate as much as terrific cooking.
Stoner
The thing about Labs is they think nothing of putting something in their mouth and swallowing it. Doesn't matter if it is something nutritious like a raw carrot or something dead and disgusting they find in the woods. As evidence of this a couple of weeks ago Sister carried around with her some deer's foreleg for a half of a day. The good news is we don't have rodents or bunnies bothering us. The bad news is the dogs are on worm medicine year-round and once and awhile we have to make a run to the vet.
Running With The Big Dogs
I have often been told not to run around with a scissors in my hand. And I try not to run around with my hair on fire either. But running with the dogs is another story.
Random Musings and Idle Chit Chat
Here it is - we're coming-up on the end of March already and gardening is just around the corner. Last fall I left some of my vegetable remnants in the garden as green manure. Along with the weeds there were cabbage bottoms, broccoli and Brussels sprouts mainly. I figured the garden rubbish would fester over the winter and when spring arrived I would simply plow it under with the rototiller.
Fine Dining
Many years ago I recall asking the dog's veterinarian about the propensity of my Lab to dine on all manner of offal that is found in the woods. Of particular interest - to me at least - was a refined taste for baby bunnies.
The Trouble With Labs
And I'm not talking about scary lab results you receive after a doctor visit. No siree. I'm talking about Labrador retrievers and the people that own them. Especially if the people are crazy enough to have more than one Lab dog.
Bionic Dog
There is a thread over on the Tosa Town Square about: Kathleen Vinehout: Dairy Farmer, College Professor, State Senator. The individual who posted it suggested that Tosans might - Get familiar with the name. This probably has something to do with Senator Vinehout's musings about running against Governor Walker.
Spink County Pheasants
It was early Monday morning when Braumeister and I rolled-up to The Refuge to fetch our pheasants from the freezer. This was the close to a singularly memorable pheasant hunt for the usual gang.
The Garden Chronicles
This has singularly been the latest spring arrival in recent memory. The consequence of this is that weather conditions for turkey hunting have been appalling. Snow, rain and high winds. Nevertheless, I shot a gobbler and Lawyer and Sid each killed a jake. Only Braumeister got skunked.
