Gas Pains
Tom grew up in Milwaukee, bartended in Wauwatosa in the '70s and moved here in 1984.
Commentary, observations and musings about the outdoors, life in general and maybe Tosa politics and personalities will be the order of the day. He savors a lively debate as much as terrific cooking.
Gas Pains Performs a Science Experiment
Hi everyone.
I want to thank my fellow Community Voices for their forbearance during Wisconsin's firearm deer season. Nine days of deer hunting goes fast for me and I know I was hogging the blogging so I thank you for your understanding.
Time Warp
Sometimes I think that as I age time is somehow speeding-up.
As a child I remember summers being wonderfully long.
The Science Experiment
Here is another visitor.
This bird is a bit higher on the pecking order than the ravens as it chased them away so as to have the carcass all to itself.
A Deer Camp Report Including a Recipe
We've been hunting since Thursday - taking advantage of a late season antlerless-only hunt. In two and a half days we've seen four deer and no shots have been fired.
This has been a tougher than normal hunt. With a full moon the deer have been foraging at night and not moving about during daylight hours. It has also been really, really cold. Until today the temperatures have been in the single digits. At 34 degrees it is positively tropical out there. There's also a foot of snow on the ground so anyone trekking a half mile out to a deer stand is in for a lung-busting sweat-fest - even at 5 degrees. The deer stands are icy and snow-covered. What fun.
The Revenge of the Google
You know that from time to time I have been unable to resist having a go at the humor behind internet searches.
It recently came to my attention that I should pay much closer attention to referrals being made to this blog. Referrals are visitors to this blog when someone is redirected here via another website. Every published post has a log of these events. Many of the referrals occur when I make a shameless pitch along with the link when posting on a hunting message board. But most of the time it happens when someone is combing the web in search of information - both useful and otherwise.
El Toro es Muerto
I debated replacement of my trusty red Toro snowblower this summer. I had it over to Speedway for servicing and told the fella there that if repairs were going to run more than $100 to call me first and we'd talk trade-in. The bill ended-up in the mid two digits so the Toro was given another lease on life.
Well not quite - but very close. After twenty five winters of faithful service the Toro is now on life support.
Gentlemen - Start Your Ovens
Alas. The best-laid plans of mice and men.
I made and canned a giant batch of garden salsa to be given-away at Christmastime this year. It was to be a homegrown gift for the family. The problem is that the weather interfered with my plans.
Broadway Brett
Before you jump all over me for spoiling your perfectly good Christmas by resurrecting painful memories of this:
