Gas Pains
Tom grew up in Milwaukee, bartended in Wauwatosa in the '70s and moved here in 1984.
Commentary, observations and musings about the outdoors, life in general and maybe Tosa politics and personalities will be the order of the day. He savors a lively debate as much as terrific cooking.
Friday Morning Music
It is Summerfest time.
It has been perhaps four or five years since my last opportunity to fest with the best. In an earlier life Summerfest was a routine that involved the purchase of a pass. I got to thinking the other day of when Jill and I were courting.
Guess The Critter
Do you remember the story about the Christmas tree that was on our porch that eventually became the Packer tree and after the Super Bowl became the St. Patrick's Day tree? And how we found a curious and large cocoon on one of the branches?
After four months on the porch the tree ended-up as mulch but we kept the silky capsule in the fridge finally bringing it out at the end of May.
Friday Morning Music
This song has been covered by any number of artists - including Roberta Flack in the early 1970s.
Make-out music we called it.
The Garden Chronicles
Garden update.
As I tap-out this post on my laptop I'm sitting on the porch enjoying an icy cold Labatt Blue Bière. Whooey...it is hot! Like a sauna. I just finished hoeing the tomato and pumpkin patch. Yesterday I weeded the main garden and Jill cleared the kitchen garden. The dogs are lounging around. After-all it is the Dog Days of Summer.
The House Finches Return
So far this year we've had Cardinals nesting in a giant tangle of a rose bush along the fence in our tiny back yard.
Plus mourning doves building their flimsy and generally ineffective nests on the neighbor's house. It is a miracle this species persists.
Friday Morning Music
It's the start of the weekend people.
I'm leaving tomorrow in the wee hours to peddle my bike to Sturgeon Bay. 150 miles - with an overnight in Manitowoc. Eighteen years of riding for a cure for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. And quite possibly the last man standing for uninterrupted completion of all of the rides. I suspect I'll run-across former Alderman Krol raising money for his team. My team - Team Swill - has added a new member. One of my pheasant hunting buddies. Update next week.
A Roommate Moves In
I have been leading a semi-bachelor existence lately. Jill and the dogs are up at the farm and I'm in Tosa doing my day job with once-a-week commutes to and from to make the pack whole again.
Truthfully, four or five days away from my girls can be down-right lonely at times.
Deer Camp Snobbery
My buddy Braumeister is a national home brewing champion. He traditionally crafts a keg of all malt, refreshing adult beverage for our deer camp every November. He now has undertaken mastering the art of cheese making.
He has become a Cheesemeister.
Friday Morning Music
It's the start of the weekend people. Best to kick it off with a catchy tune from what is arguably the best rock and roll band on the planet.
Packer Nation
Are you ready for some football?
With the player's union and the owners reaching a settlement it's difficult to stifle the excitement of another season of Packer football.
