Hungry for Good Theater?

It’s hard not to walk out of a high school musical whistling a catchy tune or feeling a little better about life. I guarantee you’ll do just that after you watch the Tosa West Players perform “Oliver!” this weekend and next — and not just because of the talent and energy of the cast and crew. You can also feel good about helping out the Tosa Cares Food Pantry.

How fitting that a musical about an orphan who dares to ask for more food be an opportunity for us to share our excess food with those less fortunate in our community. The cast is encouraging patrons to bring healthy, nonperishable food items to help restock the shelves of the Tosa Cares Food Pantry, which has seen a huge increase in demand as more families suffer from job loss, sickness and other financial setbacks.

Consider yourself invited to see "Oliver!" at 7 p.m. on November 6, 7, 13 or 14; or at 2 p.m. on Sunday, November 8. Tickets are $5 each for senior citizens and students and $12 for adults. Advance credit card ticket purchases can be made by calling 773-3219 during weekday school hours.

Tosa East returns to its fall tradition of performing a non-musical comedy with five performances of "The Foreigner," written by Larry Shue of "The Nerd" fame.

"The Foreigner" made its debut in Milwaukee in 1983 before going on the London and Broadway. It tells the story of a painfully shy English gentleman who is trying to find solitude in southern Georgia, when a well-meaning friend tells everyone that he is a foreigner who does not speak English. He soon finds himself in the middle of a conspiracy helping three unsuspecting country people save their home.
