In keeping with this week's wildlife theme who can tell me what critter did this to one of my swamp white oaks?

  1. If it was a bug that did that I'm in big trouble.

    It was a Yellow-bellied Sapsucker (which is in the woodpecker group). So, SinissippGal correctly ID'd the bird by being technically correct.

    The alignment of the holes is the key.

  4. I'm going with the glamorous guess that it was a Yellow-bellied Sapsucker, with the hope that it wasn't some sort of boring (and I don't mean dull!) insect.
    By the way, thanks so much for the previous post with my pictures...it was nice to see.
  5. I would guess some sort of insect. Hopefully not the emerald ash borer.
