Painful college visit

My wife, youngest daughter and I set off to take a look at a couple of colleges this last weekend. During a break between schools while my wife is napping at the hotel and my daughter and I are exploring the local downtown my sweet and innocent daughter decides she wants a piercing. "No way, no where, no how" says me. "I'll be 18 in three months and I can do it anyway!" says she. Now comes the moment of truth as we stand outside "Mind Altering Piercing and Tattoos" where they feature a bumper sticker that says "%&@#! yeah it hurts!". Incidentally, you want to see some the the scariest humans outside of State Fair, hang around a tattoo parlor.

Anyway, executive decision time- do we go ahead and get this done and surprise her mom (and risk getting tattoooed myself) or wait and come back later. Daughter is convinced now is the time, "because mom will never say yes". This may be true, but having long established myself as the voice of reason in my family I say let's wait until Sleeping Beauty awakes. We trek to the hotel, daughter pleads her case (future lawyer or weasel) and wife gives the OK.  Half hour later baby girl is proudly sporting hardware from her belly button. Ouch.
