SUSAN SCAIFE, 4TH GRADE
It is my first year teaching at St. Bernard, but not my first year teaching. After graduating from UW Oshkosh I found my first teaching job at St. Peter's School as a combined 5th and 6th Grade teacher in the small town of Tilden, WI. After one year there my husband and I wanted to be closer to our families, so we moved back to the Milwaukee area where I taught 4th Grade at St. Stephan. During my time at St. Stephan I became pregnant with my first of now 3 children. I stopped teaching for 10 years and stayed home to raise my family. When my youngest was in kindergarten I went back to work as a teaching assistant at St. Gregory the Great. The two years as an assistant were great, but I missed having my own classroom. With my children used to me working out of the house now I decided to go back to teaching again. St. Bernard has been wonderful with its small class sizes, friendly staff, and caring parents. I am very happy to be at St. Bernard. My plans for the second semester are to continue working with the students on our SmartBoard (interactive whiteboard). I feel it is important to keep the children up with the latest technology. I also want to continue helping my students develop a love for reading and discover the wonderful places books can take you.
