Gas Pains

Tom grew up in Milwaukee, bartended in Wauwatosa in the '70s and moved here in 1984.

Commentary, observations and musings about the outdoors, life in general and maybe Tosa politics and personalities will be the order of the day. He savors a lively debate as much as terrific cooking.

An Important Public Service Announcement

Public Policy, Representative Cullen, Senator Sullivan, Technology

Pack up the babies and grab the old ladies and everyone goes, 'cause everyone knows... -Neil Diamond, 1969

Oops.

No man's life, liberty or property are safe while the legislature is in session.  -Judge Gideon J. Tucker, 1866

That's better.

Sound advice - even for modern times.

The legislature is back in session.

In my continuing efforts to introduce you to yet another public service - I bring you The Wisconsin Legislative Notification Service.

It's not my idea but in case you didn't know about it I'll take credit for at least bringing it to your attention.  I've used it for a number of years and am convinced it is a terrific way of staying-tuned to what your legislators are up to in Madison when you aren't able to watch them like they were your own children.

To participate in this service all you have to do is go to the link above and create an account.

From there you have a variety of options regarding what you wish to be notified about.  You can choose items by Proposal, Committee, Author or Subject and can select the activities for which you would like to receive notifications.  Email notifications will arrive weekly or daily.

For instance, I like to be notified weekly about anything submitted by Cullen or Sullivan and a handful of other legislators, including the committees they serve-upon.  I also want notifications that come out of other committees. Finally, I like being notified on certain subjects.  To that end I've created a personal list of key words so that I will be notified of any legislation pertaining to subjects that interest me.  For example, if one of my subjects is Deer Hunting then anytime anybody breaths a legislative breath about Deer Hunting I am going to get an email notifying me about it.

So, if you want to make sure that someone doesn't sneak something through about Ginseng when you're not looking; add that to your list.

To be absolutely clear, I don't want you to think that I don't think that ALL OF THE WORK of the legislature isn't critically important.  You know me, I would never think that.

What I'm saying is that instead of trying to sip from Madison's legislative fire hose use the notification service to keep your finger on the pulse of stuff that is important to you.  That way you can follow it through the legislative process and chime-in with an informed email or phone call when it is needed the most.

Remember, the salvation show is back in session.  Come to think of it, maybe you better pack-up the babies and grab the old ladies.

Good luck.

See what I've done.  Now you're going to go around all day long with that song playing over and over in your head

Sorry about that.
