Gas Pains

Tom grew up in Milwaukee, bartended in Wauwatosa in the '70s and moved here in 1984.

Commentary, observations and musings about the outdoors, life in general and maybe Tosa politics and personalities will be the order of the day. He savors a lively debate as much as terrific cooking.

The Science Experiment

Here's an update.

The science experiment (my attempt to capture images of who is feasting on a deer carcass) has been on a forced hiatus.

Deer Camp - Closing Post

Hunt'n, Outdoors

Our post-Christmas vacation is drawing to a close.

We hosted a niece and nephew for the past week at the farm.  In keeping with the policy of No Child Left Indoors the days have been filled with snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, hauling firewood, playing with Girlfriend and other assorted outdoor activities.  The evenings have been spent sampling all manner of terrific food and relaxing in front of the fire.  Mornings are for sleeping-in.

Tosa Curling

Bonspiel:  A match or tournament between curling clubs.

I am a bit pooped.  I curled Wednesday night, Thursday night, all day Friday and again today.  Chasing and sweeping a stone one direction and walking back the other.  As near as I can figure that is just shy of eight miles.  All the while on ice.  Add to the tally delivering roughly five dozen rocks.  That would amount to more than a ton of Scottish granite.  That's a decent workout - efficiently negated by all of the food and Lakefront Brewery product.

Doing the People's Business

Politics-Tosa, Public Policy

Tuesday evening I went over to City hall to catch the special Common Council meeting and discussion of Tosa's aldermanic selection process.  It's been in the news in case you haven't noticed.

Anyway, I'll leave the detailed coverage of this meeting to my diligent acquaintances over at the mainstream media.  You can count upon them to get the motions, amendments and other facts straight.  I'm going to restrict my commentary to that of making a handful of personal observations.

Gardening

Unlike some of you I don't mind all of the snow and cold.  I like being outside in winter.  I remember going winter camping for the first time with my wife.  We were sitting around the campfire at night and a duck flew-in and landed next to us.  I'm not making this up.  There we sat; Jill, me and the mallard.  But that's an altogether different story.

Nowadays I rather enjoy the change of venue of coming back indoors for the opportunity to get caught-up on my reading.  And there is nothing like a like a breath of summer when a cold wind howls.  Homemade salsa with chips while basking in the warming multi-megawatt glow of a Sunday game on The Giant Conundrum.  You'd almost think it was early season football.

I got an email tonight from one of my small legion of loyal readers that included some inaugural photographs.

See this guy with the bullhorn under his arm.  I suspect he has issues about uppity women.

Since I live near Hart Park I'm excited to know that the city is finally going to get serious about making the park improvements come together.  Heck, I'm actually grateful.  This is an investment in our community that all Tosans are going to benefit from and can be proud-of.  Generations to follow will thank us for polishing this gem.

And, yes, I think the Mayor deserves her fair share of credit for shepherding this process along.  Good job.

Technically only one of these guys actually lives in Wauwatosa so that would make it more of a riddle.

Can you identify these three handsome fellas?
